This particularly atmospheric and unique hand-carved wooden bas-relief panel is a signed work by the Pacific artist Arius Benjamin from 1975. This substantial artwork is crafted from a single solid piece of high-quality tropical hardwood (mahogany) and is in beautiful condition. The panel depicts a highly detailed, lively, and dynamic tropical village and agricultural scene in a characteristic naive/oceanic folk art style. The deep carvings create a stunning interplay of light and shadow. On the reverse side, the work is clearly signed and dated, carved into the wood, confirming the provenance of this unique piece. The artwork is in good condition, with the wood having developed a natural patina over the years. The original finish and the depth of the carving have been well preserved.
