Product description
This particularly atmospheric and unique hand-carved wooden bas-relief panel is a signed work by the Pacific artist Arius Benjamin from 1975. This substantial artwork is crafted from a single solid piece of high-quality tropical hardwood (mahogany) and is in beautiful condition. The panel depicts a highly detailed, lively, and dynamic tropical village and agricultural scene in a characteristic naive/oceanic folk art style. The deep carvings create a stunning interplay of light and shadow. On the reverse side, the work is clearly signed and dated, carved into the wood, confirming the provenance of this unique piece. The artwork is in good condition, with the wood having developed a natural patina over the years. The original finish and the depth of the carving have been well preserved. There are no cracks or major damage; the wood has a beautiful warm glow and a fine grain structure. This relief panel comes into its own particularly well in an eclectic interior, where it serves as a powerful statement on the wall and combines effortlessly with other natural materials.
