Product description
Beautiful vintage bookcase model ‘BB04’, designed by Cees Braakman and produced by Pastoe in the 1950s. This model belongs to Pastoe's famous birch series, a progressive furniture line characterized by light birch wood, clear forms, and clever constructions.
The cabinet has been deliberately preserved in as original a condition as possible. The piece of furniture has been carefully cleaned and conserved, with the original finish, color, and beautiful patina preserved as much as possible. The flap has also been checked and functions properly again. The present signs of wear are consistent with the age of the cabinet and tell a story about its rich history, without detracting from its appearance.
The cabinet features multiple open compartments for books, for example, and is equipped with a practical flap door behind which are various storage compartments for paperwork and stationery. The white insert compartment was reproduced by us because the original was missing. When unfolded, the flap serves as a compact workspace, a clever detail that perfectly suited the smaller homes of the post-war reconstruction period and is still surprisingly practical today.
What makes this model particularly special are the iconic loop legs. They give the cabinet an airy and distinctive look that ensures the design still appears strikingly modern even after more than seventy years. In combination with the sober design and beautiful proportions, a typical Braakman design emerges: simple at first glance, but full of clever details. Top-notch Dutch design.
