Bay Keramik White Floor Vase (Model 8040) – West German Ceramics, 1960s–70s
A striking large white floor vase by Bay Keramik, in a rare monochrome glossy glaze and an elegant relief pattern that immediately recalls stylised leaves or feathers. The vase combines sculptural presence with a refined, almost architectural rhythm — the repeated vertical reliefs catch the light beautifully, creating shadow play on the glossy white surface. This is one of those West German ceramics that prove how effective pure white can be when paired with strong structure.
Marked on the base with BAY, W.-Germany and 8040. Height approx. 40 cm, diameter approx. 22 cm. The vase is in very good vintage condition with only minimal, age-appropriate signs of time.
About Bay Keramik:
Founded in 1933 in Ransbach-Baumbach, Bay Keramik grew into one of the most influential manufacturers of West German art pottery during the mid-century era. Under the direction of Eduard Bay and later his son Willi Bay, the company became known for its innovative glazes, experimental surface treatments, and sculptural forms. While bold colours were central to Bay’s output, the factory also produced a series of elegant monochrome vases in white and cream — pieces that today feel especially contemporary. Bay Keramik remained active until 1997, leaving behind a rich and highly collectible design legacy within the “Fat Lava” tradition and beyond.
