The expressive face is characterized by large bulging eyes, a wide open mouth, and an elaborately crafted headdress. Above the headdress are two opposing stylized reptiles or snakes, motifs that are associated with status, protection, and royal power within the court art of the region. Casting and patina The mask is crafted from a copper alloy using the traditional lost-wax method. The reverse side shows the rough, manual casting structure and a hanging eye for wall display. The surface has a dark brown to black patina with localized green copper oxidation and natural signs of use and age. Condition Good historical condition with surface aging, patina, and localized oxidation consistent with age and material. The mask is offered as found and is excellently suited as a powerful standalone wall object.
