B-132/59 Table Lamp by Hans-Agne Jakobsson for AB Markaryd, Sweden (1960s)
Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) is celebrated as one of Sweden’s most influential lighting designers, renowned for his poetic approach to light and his ability to create atmospheric, diffused illumination. After training as a carpenter and architect, Jakobsson established his own company, AB Markaryd, in 1951, which quickly gained international recognition.
This rare model, the B-132/59 table lamp, was produced in the 1960s. It features a striking umbrella-shaped shade in a vibrant yellow lacquer, set above a cylindrical chromed metal base. The contrast between the bright shade and the sleek base gives the lamp its distinctive character. When lit, the shade softens the light and creates a warm, inviting atmosphere.
The B-132/59 is one of Jakobsson’s more uncommon designs and is highly sought after by collectors of Scandinavian modern lighting. This example remains in very good original condition, with only minor signs of age.
A true statement piece, this lamp beautifully captures the elegance and playfulness of 1960s Swedish design.
