An unusual figurative cachepot or planter in the shape of an elephant, made of black, high-gloss glazed ceramic. Stylistically and formally, this model is very similar to an elephant cachepot by Walter Bosse, which is in the collection of the Museum Kurhaus Kleve. That piece is cataloged as Walter Bosse, Kufstein, circa 1935. The present piece is smaller and unmarked; the attribution to Walter Bosse is therefore based on a comparison of forms. Characteristic features include the spherical body, the four splayed legs, the sculpted elephant head with large ears and trunk, and the small, looped tail. Dimensions: H approx. 19 cm × W approx. 20 cm × D approx. 17 cm. Opening: Ø approx. 12 cm. Weight: approx. 1.4 kg. Condition: Used vintage condition with signs of age and use. There are some stains and scratches on the black glaze, including one deeper scratch. Minor chips on the tusks and ears have already been repaired. Overall, it remains a very decorative and expressive collector's item. Please examine the photos carefully, as they are part of the condition description.
