Product description
Exceptional and very graphic square plate with a hollow shape in art ceramic, from the famous historic manufacture Maison Pichon in Uzès (Gard, France). This piece bears on the reverse the factory stamp as well as the signature of the artist painter-decorator "Verdame" traced in white enamel.
The object immediately catches the eye thanks to its superb turquoise blue glaze speckled with a very deep black mottled or speckled effect. The front displays in its center a hand-painted figurative decoration representing a squash (or pumpkin) in ocher, saffron and yellow tones, magnificently highlighted by relief lines and strong black shadows.
Maison Pichon, established in Uzès since 1802, is world-renowned for its art and tableware pieces of Provençal inspiration. This unique series from the 1960s/1970s combines the tradition of Midi terracotta with a pop and modern graphic design.
Features:
• Manufacturer: Maison Pichon Uzès (France)
• Artist / Painter: Verdame (Signed on front)
• Theme: Squash / Pumpkin (Tableware)
• Period: Circa 1960-1970
• Dimensions: 26 cm x 26 cm | Height 2 cm
• Condition: Splendid vintage conservation condition. The speckled enamel has retained all its mirror shine and the colors of the central motif are very vibrant.
