About this seller
Private sellerProduct description
This ceramic plate was produced by the Belgian manufacturer Capellemans Aîné. The piece is marked with the year 1889, placing it at the end of the 19th century, a period of great innovation in European decorative arts. It is distinguished by its complex transfer pattern, named "Tefsela".
Made of fine earthenware, the plate features a black printed decoration on an off-white background. The pattern imitates a basketry or weaving texture, with a stylized central medallion and a geometric patterned border. The back of the plate bears the manufacturer's stamp "J.S. Capellemans Aîné", the model name "Tefsela N°97", the decorator's mark "WS & C°" and the production year "1889" stamped into the paste.
The general condition of the plate is consistent with its old age, showing the character and history of an object that has passed through more than a century. The glaze retains its original shine, highlighting the fineness of the printed design details. This piece testifies to the expertise of the Capellemans factory, active in Hal, Belgium.
As a collector's item or decorative piece, this plate can be displayed on a wall or in a display cabinet. Its two-tone graphic design allows it to fit equally well into a classic interior or a more contemporary decor, where it will bring a touch of historical authenticity.
