The lid lifts off with a single movement, revealing a glossy black lacquer interior, smooth and deep like a mirror. On the exterior, the duck spreads its feathers in an engraved and gilded decoration of remarkable intricacy. Every delicate segment, every wing vein, every curve of the neck is precisely etched into the gilded lacquered wood. Its head slightly tilted, its beak rounded, its tail raised. An object that has been carefully conceived and executed. This lidded box, made of lacquered and gilded wood, is part of the Asian artisanal tradition of decorative storage objects, which were very popular in European interiors from the 1960s to the 1980s.
