This ashtray by Kristal Unie, designed by Max Verboeket, is a striking example of Dutch glass design from the mid-twentieth century. The design is characterized by an organic, asymmetrical shape that emphasizes the fluid nature of the material.
The object is crafted from solid glass, in which a deep blue core is enclosed by a clear outer layer. This technique creates a captivating interplay of light and color, depending on the angle of incidence. With a diameter of approximately 14 centimeters, the piece offers a substantial presence. The flowing lines and the recess for a cigarette demonstrate its functional origins, although nowadays it is often appreciated as a decorative object.
The ashtray is in a condition befitting its age and previous use, while retaining the character of the vintage glass. The original luster and the intensity of the blue color are still prominently present.
