Inspired by the British Arts and Crafts movement, Dutch designers adopted a dedication to crafts and the idea that artistic talent should benefit society.
This rare set is a beautiful representation of the movement's heritage in the Netherlands. The Dutch Arts & Crafts movement borrowed from the indigenous patterns and techniques of the Dutch East Indies colony, as well as the austere Old Dutch furniture of the early seventeenth-century Golden Age. The emphasis on geometry became a distinctive feature of Dutch design that is also preserved in this set. The most striking element of the refined solid wood frames is the T-shaped backrest wrapped with woven piping.
Although not much is known about the Dutch architect and designer W. Kuyper, his well-known chair designs share the same high level of craftsmanship and sculptural design aesthetic. Like most of his designs, this pair of chairs was probably made by Bureau Kuyper in Amsterdam.
It's in ok condition, but as you see in the pictures, some need new wickerwork, a good clean and some oil.
