About this seller
ProfessionalProduct description
An elegant antique table basket whose design takes us back to the early years of the 20th century and to that period when nature became one of the great sources of inspiration for the decorative arts. Its oval shape is surrounded by a wide, deeply undulating border, crafted with soft fluting that beautifully catches the light. At both ends, the handles take on the appearance of gnarled branches. Their deliberately irregular, almost vegetal design gives the piece its full character and fully places it within the naturalist vocabulary of Art Nouveau. Measuring nearly 39 cm across, it boasts beautiful proportions and a definite decorative presence. Formerly intended for the table, it could hold bread, fruit, or sweets. Today, it can naturally resume this function, but can also be repurposed as a large decorative bowl on a table, console, or sideboard. The silver-plated metal bears an antique patina and traces of use, with the silvering having subtly mellowed over time. The piece thus retains the lively and authentic appearance of a table object that has spanned over a century. No manufacturer's mark is visible. Overall length approximately 39 cm. Width approximately 25 cm. Circa .
