Product description
Beautiful and impressive Art Nouveau style plant pot, jardinière or cache pot, made of polychrome glazed earthenware, by Jèrôme Massier (1850-1926) for Vallauris, circa 1900, marked and signed on the bottom.
The Massier family from Vallauris is known for three family members who produced majolica in the second half of the nineteenth century. In 1860, cousin Jerome Massier joined the brothers Delphin and Clement Massier; together they began producing ceramics in a style that was halfway between traditional Victorian majolica and Art Nouveau earthenware. The Massiers mastered the 'flambé' glazing technique based on copper oxide, thereby introducing an intensely vibrant color palette, including red, green, and blue hues, which had not been seen before in English majolica.
This large plant pot is in very good antique condition, with age-related signs of wear and use such as discoloration, but no cracks or breaks, a few small chips in the glaze along the rim, check the photos for more details!
Dimensions: 33x32x22.5cm.
Weight: 2.851kg.
