This Art Nouveau barometer and thermometer is a striking example of early twentieth-century Dutch design. Produced in the Netherlands during the 1920s, the piece captures the organic, flowing lines characteristic of the era, rendered in a bold colour palette that commands attention. The red color may not be the original one, but it was painted red at some point in the last hundred years. The instrument features a carved wooden frame finished in a vibrant red, accented with brass detailing and a central decorative enamel cabochon. The upper section houses a classic mercury thermometer with dual Fahrenheit and Celsius scales, while the lower section features a holosteric barometer with a visible mechanical movement. The barometer dial is inscribed with traditional Dutch weather indications, including 'Veranderlyk' and 'Zeer Schoon'. The piece remains in good condition, preserving its original character and functional components. The painted finish and brass elements display a natural patina consistent with a century of history. This distinctive wall instrument serves as both a functional meteorological tool and a compelling decorative object.
