Product description
Here we have a wonderful art nouveau or arts and craft chair attributed to Gustave Serrurier-Bovy or his surroundings. There is some debate amongst the scholars if this chair belongs to the Art Nouveau ( sometimes referred to as Jugendstil or as one might say in Belgium, de Nieuwe Kunst ), or Arts and Crafts period. As it has been attributed to Serrurier-Bovy or his surroundings arts and crafts is certainly possible as the artist was heavily influenced by British designer William Morris. There has also been an expert who feels the chair belongs more to the Glasgow school ( 1890-1910 ). The chair obviously has been reupholstered as one can see from the pics. There is also a thin crack in the base of the chair which does not effect it's stability in any way.
This vintage/antique item may have some wear such as scratches and other signs of ageing.
