This is an early 19th-century Architectural Tabernacle mirror (also known as a Mantelpiece mirror or Trumeau mirror). The frame is characterized by clean, neoclassical lines. The top features a characteristic profiled and stepped entablature (cornice or crown molding). The wooden frame is finished with classical gilding (gold leaf on a gesso base). The recessed profile edges create a shadow effect that accentuates the geometric forms of the frame. The warm gold color displays an authentic, weathered patina, with the dark or red underlayer (bolus) subtly showing through at the corners and edges. Mirror glass: The rectangular mirror glass features a wide, beveled edge that refines the transition to the frame. The glass surface shows light oxidation spots (foxing), indicating an original silver or mercury layer and contributing to its antique value.
