This is a glass jardiniere produced by the Polish glassworks Hortensja, dating from the 1950s. The piece is a notable example of mid-century European glassmaking, showcasing the enduring influence of the Art Deco style in its geometric form and decorative motifs.
Crafted from pressed glass, the jardiniere is distinguished by its warm, translucent amber colour. The design features a square pedestal base that supports a deep, rounded bowl. The body is adorned with intricate embossed patterns, including stylised roses and geometric fan shapes, which are framed by a scalloped and beaded rim. This method of production allows for detailed and textured decoration that interacts dynamically with light.
The jardiniere is presented in good vintage condition, showing character consistent with its age and history. The integrity of the pressed glass construction is maintained, and the amber colour remains vibrant and even throughout the piece. It stands as a testament to the quality and design heritage of the Hortensja glass factory.
As a decorative object, this piece is well-suited for display on a sideboard, console, or as a centrepiece on a table. Its classic form and rich colour would complement interiors ranging from traditional to Art Deco and eclectic, serving as a sophisticated accent.
