Product description
Three-piece Art Deco mantel set by the Belgian faience factory Terra (Jemappes), consisting of a mantel clock and two matching side vases. Hand-painted with a stylised floral decor in orange, brown, green, blue and lilac on a cream crackle glaze, with moulded relief details on the bases.
Marked on the back of the clock: "Déposé Terra N° 174".
Condition:
* The clock movement is a later replacement (Europa, Germany) and does not work. A simple quartz insert can easily be fitted.
* The right-hand vase has a crack along the side with small glaze chips at the base; it is cracked but not broken.
* The clock and left-hand vase are in good condition, with the expected crazing of the glaze.
* Manufacturer: Terra, Jemappes (Belgium)
* Period: 1930s
* Model: no. 174
* Material: glazed faience, hand-painted
* Dimensions: set approx. 47 cm wide, clock approx. 22 cm high
A decorative and colourful example of the Belgian ceramic mantel clocks that were popular in the interwar period.
