DESCRIPTION:
A beautiful antique Art Deco chair, made by the renowned Dutch furniture manufacturer Pander & Sons. The chair is designed in the timeless Hague School style. The chair's designer may have been Hendrik Wouda; it is consistent with his work, but this has not been confirmed. The quality is evident, however, with beautiful coromandel armrests and footrests that display a lovely pattern. It also has a beautifully shaped backrest and a sturdy cross-joint at the legs. The chair exhibits the craftsmanship you would expect from Pander & Sons throughout.
ABOUT PANDER & ZONEN:
In 1850, Klaas Pander began selling rush mats in The Hague. Initially, directly from the ship, but later from a small shop where, under the influence of his son Hendrik, they also sold furniture. In 1887, they established a furniture factory in the countryside. Over the years, this expanded into Pander & Sons, and from 1900 to 1940, they operated a large warehouse. In 1985, as a result of the mergers, Pander en zonen closed its doors. With their penchant for modern interiors, Pander and Wouda, along with his students (Cor Alonsen Brunott), were at the forefront of the Hague Style. This style is characterized by straight lines, clean contours, and smooth, unadorned panels. Wouda's designs also featured a combination of different wood types and colors. Wouda is considered the most important designer.

CONDITION:
Expertly reupholstered with comfortable padding and a velvet finish. There is a slight crack on the right front leg, but this is not bothersome, and the construction is sturdy. There is slight movement in the right armrest. Otherwise, there are minor signs of wear consistent with age.
