Product description
Art Deco Ceramic Lidded Box with Abstract Blue and Turquoise Decoration – Villeroy & Boch, Germany, Early 20th Century
An elegant Art Deco ceramic lidded box by Villeroy & Boch, combining architectural geometry with playful, painterly decoration.
Its distinctive asymmetrical silhouette features softly rounded ends, stepped contours, and a fitted lid with a raised rectangular handle. Against a warm ivory ground, expressive strokes of cobalt blue, turquoise green, and soft grey create a lively composition of geometric lines, dots, and sweeping curves.
The glossy glaze displays fine craquelure and a gently aged patina, adding character to this charming example of early twentieth-century decorative ceramics.
The combination of streamlined form and abstract ornament reflects the modernist design vocabulary of the interwar period, with affinities to Art Deco and Bauhaus-era aesthetics.
