Product description
An exceptional three-piece lounge set, designed by Danish designers Arnold Madsen and Henry Schubell for the Dutch furniture manufacturer Bovenkamp, dating from 1964.
The set consists of a sofa and two accompanying armchairs: a characteristic high-back armchair (originally intended as a 'gentleman's armchair') including the original head cushion, and a more compact model with a lower backrest (originally intended as a 'lady's armchair').
The design is characterized by beautifully crafted solid oak frames, combined with elegantly shaped teak armrests that extend beyond the backrests. This special construction creates a striking architectural silhouette, especially when viewing the furniture from the side or back. The combination of warm oak and contrasting teak underlines the refined craftsmanship and the strong influence of Scandinavian design.
The generously sized seats and slightly sloping backrests offer excellent comfort, while the visible wooden construction gives the furniture an airy and elegant appearance.
All three pieces of furniture still feature the original, matching upholstery: a fabric with a beautiful texture in warm, earthy tones. The upholstery has been exceptionally well preserved and shows only slight, age-appropriate discoloration. This original fabric contributes greatly to the authenticity and character of the complete set.
Each piece of furniture bears the original stamp of manufacturer Bovenkamp, including the number '64', confirming the production year 1964.
A beautifully preserved and now rare complete lounge set, in which Danish design principles come together with the craftsmanship of the Dutch furniture manufacturer Bovenkamp. The set is particularly attractive as a whole, thanks to the original matching upholstery, the use of contrasting wood types, and the unique combination of seating furniture with high and low backrests.
In very good, original vintage condition, with slight discoloration of the upholstery consistent with age and use.
