In the 1950s and 1960s, Danish designer Arne Wahl Iversen made a name for himself with furniture that was smart, practical, and beautiful. He collaborated extensively with Komfort Møbelfabrik, a Danish manufacturer known for top quality and attention to detail. This iconic daybed also emerged from that collaboration. The piece of furniture is made of solid teak wood. Danish furniture makers at the time liked to work with teak because of its warm color, beautiful wood grain, and iron-strong quality. The most striking feature of the design are the armrests. They flow in a smooth, graceful line upwards from the back legs and curve slightly outwards. The design is a characteristic example of the Mid-Century Modern style, with organically shaped wooden armrests. The wood joints are so precisely finished that the frame almost seems to consist of one piece. After World War II, the way people lived changed. Homes were laid out differently, and there was a demand for multi-functional furniture. This design directly addresses that: with a simple hand movement, you can transform this bench into a comfortable bed for guests. Because the backrest is not directly attached to the seat but appears to 'float', the design retains its airy appearance in the room. This bench shows what 1960s Danish design is all about: clever applications, beautiful woodwork, and timeless comfort. This piece of furniture combines the function of a comfortable seating bench with the possibility of easily transforming it into a practical single bed. The seat is extended, causing 2 support legs to fold out. The overall condition of the sofa bed is fair to good and consistent with its age of over sixty years. The wooden frame has developed an authentic patina that contributes to the character of the piece. The wood on the front is slightly loose and needs to be repaired. The upholstery is not original but is in good condition.
