Armchair Lastplak
Armchair Lastplak was created with a nod to the series of unique objects MIR One, Carrot and Le Grand Foulard. All three are manufactured to the same model, but executed in distinctive reused materials. The result stems from a study of "comfortable sitting on hard material. The basic setup with seat, back and armrests was repeatedly modified over a year. Only after curves, dimensions, angles of inclination and mutual relationships were carefully determined did the final design of the armchair emerge.
MDF was chosen as the basic material for Lastplak. The object was then offered to artist collective Lastplak, known for its distinct visual language and large-scale murals in public spaces. The challenge was to translate that imagery into the relatively limited surfaces of the armchair.
Technique used
The armchair was manufactured using traditional techniques. Panels are joined with dominoes (flat dowels) and glue; all corners are mitred at an angle of 47°. This method results in a construction that is technically optimal and guarantees a very long lifespan.
Packaging and transport
Packaging is not included. A suitable solution would be a wooden crate. Collection from the studio is therefore preferred; this can be arranged in consultation.
