A substantial and highly collectible Art Deco ceramic vase, titled “Leda and the Swan, ” designed by Wilhelm Kåge as part of the renowned Argenta series for Gustavsberg, Sweden, produced in the late 1930s. This exceptional piece represents one of the most iconic expressions of Swedish ceramic design from the interwar period. Executed in Gustavsberg’s signature deep green glaze, the vase is adorned with finely worked silver decoration depicting the mythological scene of Leda and the Swan. The Argenta series is a defining example of Swedish Grace, a style that blended classical inspiration with modern restraint and was introduced to international acclaim at the Stockholm Exhibition of 1930. Today, Argenta pieces are increasingly rare and highly sought after by collectors. The vase is in very good vintage condition, with the silver decoration on both the upper section and around the foot beautifully preserved. The glaze remains rich and intact, with only minimal wear visible to the interior, entirely consistent with age. Overall, this is a remarkably well-preserved example and a true work of art.
