Antoon Kruysen was born in Boxtel in 1898 as the eldest child of the painter Jan Kruysen and Barbara van Dijk. The young Antoon is a born talent and gets his first lessons from his father. At the age of twelve he already has his first exhibition. He is formally educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam with further education in Geneva. There he also made a name for himself through the 'Grand Salon d'Art' in 1922. Success soon followed in Paris (on several occasions), Dreux, Wassenaar, Reims, Oslo and Chartres, the city where he would later live.
