This antique wooden bucket is a staved vessel with iron hoops. It originates from China, from the early 20th century, within the tradition of domestic coopering.
These buckets served to carry water, milk or grain in the home and the farm. The stave technique, proper to the cooper, achieved a watertight, resistant vessel.
The body is formed of fitted wooden staves bound by forged iron hoops. The base sits in the inner groove of the staves.
The wood shows the greyish tone of use and the iron a stable oxidation. The surface reads authentic, with no restoration to mask it.
Today it serves as a planter, decorative pail or holder. It fits rustic, wabi-sabi and country interiors, where it brings warmth and material presence.
