Product description
This antique two-handled glazed earthenware pot is a terracotta vessel covered with a green lead glaze. It originates from Central Europe, from the early 20th century, when folk pottery was wheel-thrown and glazed for the domestic kitchen. These two-handled pots served to cook and to keep food over the fire and in the pantry. The lead glaze sealed the piece and made it easy to clean. The body is wheel-thrown red clay, with two vertical handles at the shoulder. The green glaze covers the whole surface, with coppery and orange patches where the oxide reacts in the firing. The glaze shows uneven wear, with matt and glossy areas, and the clay appears at the knocks of use. The surface reads authentic, with no restoration to mask it. For its size and making, it serves as a wide-mouthed vase, a table piece or an accent in a kitchen. It fits wabi-sabi, rustic and Mediterranean interiors, where it brings warmth and material presence.
