Product description
This antique three-door sideboard in pine wood is a plain-panelled Chinese cabinet with rounded corners and ring pulls. It originates from northern China, from the Qing dynasty, where pine was joined with mortise and tenon and finished with a thin lacquer. It is an austere storage piece: no carving, no painting, no added ornament. The whole formal decision lies in the proportion, in the rhythm of the three doors and in the rounded edge that runs along the upper corner of the case. The body is solid pine on six straight legs of square section. Three framed panel doors open onto an interior with a full-width shelf and compartments divided by vertical stiles. The pulls are small iron rings on rosettes, and the plinth is resolved with three recessed panels. The original lacquer is almost entirely gone and has left the pine exposed, with dark veins drawing the grain over a honey ground. The upper edge keeps a soft use sheen. The surface is even and without repaint. Its height of 75 cm makes it a dining-room sideboard, an entrance-hall cabinet or a base for a television. The restraint of the design makes it compatible with almost any interior: minimal, japandi, contemporary or rustic.
