Antique Thai Bronze Buddha – Ayutthaya Period Dimensions H 10.8 × W 6.7 cm Weight 200 g Material Bronze / copper alloy Period 17th–18th century, Ayutthaya Period Origin Thailand Style Sukhothai style Mudra Bhumisparsha mudra Posture Seated Description Small antique Thai bronze Buddha, seated in bhumisparsha mudra with the right hand pointing towards the earth and the left hand resting in the lap. The high flame-shaped ushnisha, elongated earlobes, serene facial expression, and simple monk's robe are consistent with the Sukhothai tradition as it was continued during the Ayutthaya period. The underside largely still shows the original dark clay/sandy casting core from the lost-wax process in situ. The rough inner wall, old oxidation around the core, and small casting/core support openings document the traditional manufacturing process. The surface bears a deep green-blue and dark brown copper patina. Microscopic examination also reveals minuscule golden residues in protected areas of the face, hair, robe, and body. These traces are virtually invisible to the naked eye and are described as remnants of an older gilded finish. Condition Old surface with natural wear, corrosion, and patina consistent with age and use. The original casting core is visible in the open underside.
