Antique Thai Bronze Buddha on Lotus Base with Deep Patina
A particularly characterful bronze Buddha from Thailand, depicted in a classic meditation pose and placed on a beautifully crafted lotus base. What immediately distinguishes this statue is its rich, deep patina with layers of green, brown, and reddish hues that have naturally built up over a long period. This 'skin' is not uniform but alive, showing wear on prominent areas and consolidation in deeper zones, exactly as one would expect from older bronzes. The Buddha sits calmly and balanced, with a gentle, understated expression and a slender physique. The high ushnisha, fine hair structure, and organically shaped lotus base give the whole piece a distinctly traditional character. The decorative curls at the base also visually strengthen this statue and ensure it stands out from more standard Thai bronzes. An important technical detail is the underside, where clear remnants of the original dark core filling are still visible. This caked-on mass is typical of traditional casting techniques and confirms that this is not a modern reproduction but an older cast object with genuine signs of use and age. The presence of an export label further reinforces the story of its early export to Europe and gives the piece additional character. We are selling this statue on consignment for a client, but it is physically with us and has been carefully assessed for authenticity, patina, and technical quality.
