Dimensions: Buddha head: H 39 × W 15 cm Buddha hand: H 27.5 × W 17 cm Combined weight: 3.6 kg Antique Thai Bronze Buddha – 19th Century Head and Hand A particularly decorative ensemble of two authentic 19th-century Thai bronze Buddha fragments: an expressive Buddha head and a separate ritual hand. Both fragments are individually mounted on sober black museum stands, forming a powerful and almost architectural presentation together. The Bronze Buddha Head The head displays the characteristic refinement of Thai Buddhist sculpture. The elongated face is marked by closed, almond-shaped eyes, strongly arched eyebrows, a serene smile, and long earlobes. The skull is entirely covered with finely modeled hair curls and is crowned by a high, flaming finial. The design aligns with the Thai Rattanakosin tradition, in which older Ayutthaya elements are still clearly recognizable. Especially the pronounced flame, the elegant facial proportions, and the rhythmic treatment of the hair curls give the head its monumental appearance. The Separate Buddha Hand The second sculpture consists of a large bronze hand with exceptionally long, graceful fingers. On the palm is a raised lotus or rosette motif, a Buddhist symbol that enhances the ritual significance of the fragment. The stylized anatomy, elongated fingers, and refined modeling are characteristic of the idealized body forms of traditional Thai Buddha statues. The hand is an independent historical fragment and was originally part of a larger bronze statue. Old Surface and Natural Patina Both bronzes have a richly developed surface with dark brown, green, and earthy tones. Local copper oxidation, wear, small irregularities, and accumulation in the deeper areas are part of the natural aging of the objects and give each fragment its individual character. The two fragments did not originally belong to the same Buddha statue but have been brought together as an ensemble due to their corresponding Thai origin, age, material, and aesthetics. A Strong Sculptural Ensemble Presenting the Buddha head and hand separately creates a striking combination of spirituality and sculptural form. The black stands give the ancient bronzes space and make the ensemble particularly suitable for an art collection, Asian interior, wabi-sabi decor, meditation room, or as an independent statement piece. Condition and Presentation Both fragments are mounted on separate metal museum stands. The attachment has some play. The objects should therefore be handled carefully and are intended for stable presentation; frequent movement or unnecessary touching is not recommended.
