Antique Sumatran Cast Brass Mosque Model Origin: Sumatra, Indonesia Dating: ca. 1900–1920 Material: cast brass, openwork and engraved Dimensions: H 34.5 × W 21 × D approx. 15 cm Weight: 2.6 kg Type: architectural ritual model / mosque model Architecture of Sumatra This exceptional architectural model depicts a Sumatran mosque with three rising pyramidal roofs, deep eaves, and a tall slender spire. The facades feature openwork geometric and floral patterns, while the lower section combines rhythmic arched openings and vertical pilasters. Separate Walled Courtyard The main building is accompanied by a separate, walled courtyard with a curved entrance gate and finely openwork balustrades. The various parts were cast separately and then assembled, which clearly shows the complex architecture and artisanal construction. Casting, Patina, and Age The surface bears a deep brownish-gold patina with dark oxidation in the recesses, wear to prominent areas, and traces of prolonged use and handling. The undersides show old casting and working marks consistent with traditional brass work from the early 20th century. Presentation The model stands on a black wooden display plinth with four small feet. The combination of architectural detailing, openwork casting, and rare subject matter makes this a strong collector's item within Indonesian and Islamic art.
