ANTIQUE SOLID OAK SIDEBOARD – JACOBEAN REVIVAL – CA. 1925 – RICH WOOD CARVING
A characterful solid oak sideboard with a beautiful, lived-in appearance and many authentic details.
This piece of furniture is executed in the Jacobean Revival style, a style that became popular again around the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, harking back to traditional English Jacobean furniture art. Characteristic features include the heavy oak wood, geometric decorations, rich wood carving, and the distinctive turned legs.
The cabinet is estimated to be approximately 95–100 years old, fitting well within this period. Its provenance is also known: I acquired the piece about 30 years ago from a dear friend, who had inherited it from her 94-year-old aunt at the time.
What immediately stands out is the amount of artisanal detailing: the geometric carving around the doors and drawers, the richly decorated central panel, the original metal fittings, and the beautifully turned legs on the raised base.
The sideboard is solid and heavily built, possessing the appearance and construction of a piece of furniture made to last for generations.
The cabinet is in authentic, lived-in condition. Especially the top surface shows clear signs of use and age. Traces of use over the years are also visible on the sides. Please see the photos for this. For the enthusiast who values original patina and character, these traces are part of the furniture's charm. Anyone wishing to refresh the top could potentially have it lightly sanded and re-treated.
