This is a fine example of Italian ceramic craftsmanship, specifically a Deruta plate featuring the traditional Raffaellesco pattern. The piece showcases the intricate, hand-painted motifs that have defined the Umbrian town's majolica tradition for centuries, making it a distinctive addition to any collection of European decorative arts. Crafted from glazed ceramic, the plate measures 21 centimetres in diameter. The design is characterised by a multi-colour palette, predominantly featuring vibrant yellows, greens, blues, and reds against a white background. The central geometric medallion is surrounded by the classic Raffaellesco dragons and floral arabesques, a style inspired by Raphael's frescoes in the Vatican. The reverse bears the hand-painted inscription 'ARS DERUTE', confirming its origin. The plate remains in good overall condition, retaining its vivid colours and glossy finish. The hand-painted nature of the decoration means slight variations and character marks are inherent to the piece, reflecting its artisanal production.
