A small devotional object that possesses much more presence than its dimensions might suggest. This antique silver-plated candlestick features an almost monumental architecture, with its stepped hexagonal base, slender shaft, and elaborate relief decorations. On the main face, the Miraculous Virgin appears, surrounded by rays, an emblematic motif of Marian devotion that experienced immense popularity in France from the 19th century onwards. The decoration continues down to the smallest details. Small roses, volutes, radiating lines, and geometric motifs adorn the entire piece. The metal's patina has naturally settled into the recesses of the relief and now highlights each ornament, giving the candlestick a depth that new objects simply do not possess. It is also one of those objects once familiar, passed down and preserved because they accompanied the intimacy of a home. Beyond its primary function, it is today a charming object of religious art and decoration, a testament to an era when even modest everyday objects received genuine ornamental craftsmanship.
