This antique sideboard in pine wood features two doors with a profiled perimeter frame and a recessed central field on each. It originates from northern China, from the late Qing dynasty, where pine was worked using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery.
Chinese domestic furniture from the north worked with stable typologies throughout the Qing dynasty and the early Republic: compact two-door sideboards, solid sides, simple lower apron. The variant without added paint or lacquer — only wood and hardware — belongs to the more sober vernacular register, where expression rests entirely on the natural figure of pine.
The body is built in solid pine. The front comprises two identical doors with a profiled perimeter frame and a recessed central field. Beneath the doors, a low rail closes the composition. The hardware consists of circular hand-forged iron pulls secured with visible rivets. The construction is traditional Chinese mortise-and-tenon, without metal fasteners.
The patina keeps a washed pale tone, characteristic of pine exposed to continuous use and natural light. The most exposed areas — top edges, corners, door perimeters — have acquired a warmer tone through handling. The top surface shows the natural figure of the grain with small longitudinal cracks and the knots of the pine clearly visible.
With an 88 cm height and a contained 125 cm length, this sideboard fits medium-sized living rooms, dining rooms, entrances and bedrooms. It works as functional storage, as a decorative support or as low cabinetry in intermediate spaces. It suits wabi-sabi, japandi, contemporary rustic and Asian-inspired interiors.
