This antique sideboard in pine wood features two doors with shaped perimeter frame. It originates from northern China, from the late Qing dynasty, where pine was worked using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery.
Narrow two-door sideboards belong to the northern Chinese domestic register. Their reduced depth — 40 cm in this case — made them suitable for transition spaces: side walls, vestibules, passages between rooms. The greater height than width gives an almost vertical, light proportion, characteristic of regional urban pieces.
The body is built in solid pine. The structure is a rectangular volume closed by two doors with a shaped perimeter frame in double moulding and a recessed central field. Below the doors, a lower band with two framed panels. The pulls are hand-forged iron, with a circular ring secured by rivet. The base rests on integrated legs. The construction is traditional Chinese mortise-and-tenon, without metal fasteners.
The pine patina shows a naturally aged tone, with visible grain and soft chromatic variations between boards. The door frames present slight darkening at the edges; the central surface keeps a lighter tone. The hardware presents stable oxidation. The top surface preserves soft use marks.
Given its 40 cm depth and 93 cm height, this sideboard is a versatile piece for tight spaces. It works in hallways, vestibules, bedrooms or as storage in living rooms with limited floor plan. It fits wabi-sabi, japandi, contemporary rustic and serene interiors.
