Product description
This antique rustic trunk in pine wood is a trapezoidal-bodied chest with dovetail joinery and a flat lid. It originates from Central Europe, from the early twentieth century, within rustic storage furniture. Trunks and chests kept clothing, trousseau and household goods in the home, and also accompanied moves. Their hinged lid and robust body answered to everyday, lasting use. The body is solid pine, of trapezoidal plan, with exposed dovetail corners, an iron catch and an inner till. The construction is solid and of simple making. The patina is warm, with the pine grain on view and wear consistent with use. The surface reads authentic, with no restoration to mask it. For its format, it serves as a chest at the foot of the bed, a low table or a storage piece. It fits rustic, country and wabi-sabi interiors, where it brings warmth and an honest presence.
