Antique Russian Icon - The Annunciation - 18th/19th Century A beautiful and honest example of a Russian Orthodox wooden icon depicting the Annunciation (the announcement to Mary by the Archangel Gabriel). This object is a prime example of pre-industrial sacred art and breathes pure history. Features & Analysis: Dimensions: H 29.5 cm x W 24 cm Technique: Egg tempera on a solid wooden panel (kovcheg) Dating: Late 18th to mid-19th century (approx. 1780 – 1850) Condition: Original, unrestored condition with authentic patina Technical Expertise: Microscopical examination of the side reveals old, oxidized woodworm tunnels and traces of manual woodworking. The craquelure is organic and follows the natural movement of the wood. The wear on the gilded nimbuses (halos) confirms decades of liturgical use.
