Antique trunk in pine wood, from Central Europe. Originates from rural domestic furniture of the turn of the century, when this type of chest served as a dowry trunk and storage chest in the farmhouse.
Pieces of this type were hand-painted with floral motifs or hearts and formed part of the wedding trousseau in Central European rural communities, storing bed linen and textiles.
The dovetail-jointed structure has a domed lid with a beveled corner and rests on small feet integrated into the sides.
The original paint in greyish tones has worn naturally, revealing the ochre base in several areas while retaining the heart motifs on the front.
In a contemporary bedroom or entryway, it works as a storage trunk or low bench, bringing the color and character of Central European painted furniture.
