Product description
Antique side table in pine wood, from Central Europe, with an organic top. Originates from the tradition of rural European domestic furniture of the early 20th century, where pine was worked in solid single-plank pieces.
Pieces of this type served as low supports in the kitchen or living room, and the handle carved into one end of the top made it easy to move between rooms.
The top, with a free, slightly undulating outline, retains the natural shape of the tree trunk section, and rests on four solid conical block legs joined at the corners.
The surface shows marked wear, with cut marks, stains, and loss of the original patina where continued use has eroded the wood.
In a rustic or wabi-sabi interior, it works as a side table or footstool, bringing the sculptural character of a naturally shaped top.
