Product description
Antique ladder in pine wood, from Central Europe. It comes from rural building traditions of the 19th century, when hand ladders were shaped to suit each task.
Ladders like this one leaned against barns, haylofts and attics, and were made from timber found on the farm itself.
The two stiles, with a natural curve, end in a gentle twist at the top and carry four fitted rungs and two vertical slats forming a lattice.
The wood shows a muted, fibrous tone, with peg holes and rusted iron plates at the base.
Leaning against a wall, it works as a towel rail, a blanket holder or a sculptural piece in an entrance hall or bedroom.
