Product description
This antique painted travel trunk in pine is a dome-lidded chest with green paint and hand-forged iron straps. It originates from Central Europe, from the mid-nineteenth century, within rustic travel furniture.
Trunks and chests kept clothing, trousseau and household goods in the home, and also accompanied moves. Their hinged lid and robust body answered to everyday, lasting use.
The body is solid pine, with a domed lid braced by hand-forged iron straps, a hasp catch and side handles. The joinery is traditional and the construction is solid.
The green paint, much worn, reveals the pine over broad areas, and the forged iron keeps its stabilised rust. The patina reads authentic, with no repainting to mask it.
For its format and decoration, it serves as a chest at the foot of the bed, a low table or an accent piece. It fits rustic, country and eclectic interiors, where it brings colour and narrative.
