Product description
This antique organ bench in solid oak has a plank seat with a raised back lip and rests on two shaped legs cut in a curve. Originates from Central Europe, from the middle of the twentieth century, where oak was joined with mortise-and-tenon work and finished in wax. The plank bench on board ends is among the most constant forms in European country furniture, repeated with almost no change across centuries. The raised back lip kept whatever was set on the seat from sliding off behind. The seat is formed of two oak boards joined along their length, with the front edge rounded. The legs are full boards cut to an ogee profile and tenoned into the seat. There is no intermediate stretcher. The oak has taken an even honey tone, with medullary figure visible across the whole seat. The lengthwise joint reads faintly. The wear is soft and regular, without knocks or repairs. It serves as an entrance bench, a seat at the foot of a bed, or a low surface beside a sofa. Its sober construction and pale timber suit a rustic interior as readily as a minimal one.
