Product description
Antique low table in elm wood, from China and the Qing Dynasty, with a heavily worn top. Originates from northern China, from the early 20th century, where elm was worked using mortise-and-tenon joinery for domestic and working furniture.
This type of low table was used in domestic or artisanal settings, as a work surface for everyday tasks carried out close to the floor.
The square top, a single piece of solid elm, rests on a moulded waist and four straight legs joined by a double stretcher, following the traditional construction of this type of table.
The top shows extreme wear, with the grain deeply eroded by continued handling, tool marks, and an uneven patina revealing different layers of the wood.
In a wabi-sabi or industrial-style interior, it works as a low table of striking character, bringing the visible imprint of generations of continued use.
