Product description
Antique low table in elm wood, from China and the Qing Dynasty, with horse-hoof legs. Originates from northern China, from the late 19th century, where elm was worked using the mortise-and-tenon joinery typical of classical furniture.
Pieces of this type accompanied low seating or kangs in the traditional Chinese home, serving to hold everyday objects.
The top, with an inset central panel of contrasting grain, rests on a moulded waist and four curved legs ending in horse-hoof feet, joined by a double humpback stretcher.
The waist retains traces of the original red lacquer, while the top and legs show the natural patina of the elm, with marks of use typical of a domestic piece.
In an eclectic or contemporary Asian-inspired living room, it works as a low table or side table, bringing the sculptural silhouette of its classical Chinese construction.
