Product description
Antique low table in elm wood, from China and the Qing Dynasty. Originates from southern China, from the mid-19th century, worked using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery.
Smaller in format than other Chinese low tables of the period, it accompanied individual seating or secondary corners of the traditional home.
The square solid elm top, with visible joinery pegs on the surface, rests on four straight legs joined by an H-shaped stretcher.
The wood shows a deep, darkened patina from continued use, with pronounced wear along the edges of the top testifying to its long history.
In a wabi-sabi or minimalist living room, its small format and deep patina make it a side table of strong character.
