Product description
This antique low round table in pine wood features an oval-round top formed by joined longitudinal boards and short legs in oak. It measures 74 × 73 cm in plan by 15 cm in height. It originates from Central Europe, from the mid-twentieth century, when pine was worked in rural domestic furniture without added paint or varnish.
Round low tables from east-central Europe belonged to the peasant domestic ambit. Their reduced height placed them as floor-seated service tables, cheese tables or auxiliary rural kitchen tables. The round or oval shape was obtained by trimming a set of joined longitudinal boards, giving it an organic silhouette characteristic of peasant carpentry.
The top is built with longitudinal solid pine boards joined by bevel, cut to an oval-round shape. The top surface is polished by use and shows the natural figure of the grain. Beneath the top, four short squared oak legs offer a low and stable support. The joinery between top and legs is mortise-and-tenon, without metal fasteners.
The patina keeps a warm brown tone typical of pine without varnish, darkened by decades of domestic use. The top surface shows natural marks: small stains, service rings, soft knocks. The pine knots are visible. The oak legs keep a darker tone by contrast with the top.
With its round shape and low height, this table works as an auxiliary side table, a decorative plinth, a service support or a table for floor-seated use. It suits wabi-sabi, japandi, contemporary rustic, European brocante and minimalist interiors with rural antique presence.
