Product description
Antique kang low table in elm wood, from China. Originates from Qing dynasty domestic furniture, when this type of table was used on the raised, heated platform known as the kang.
Placed directly on the kang, it served for dining, working, or taking tea while seated, and was a central element of domestic life in northern China.
The rectangular top rests on an apron carved with cloud-shaped brackets at the corners, and on cylindrical legs joined by a lower stretcher.
The top retains visible wooden pegs and wedges from traditional Chinese joinery, alongside the deep dark patina of worked elm.
In a contemporary living room, it works as a low coffee table, bringing the structural solidity and historical character of period Chinese furniture.
