Product description
This antique Japanese folding low table is a floor table in wood with folding turned legs. It originates from Japan, from the Taisho period, when domestic life took place at tatami level.
These low tables were used to eat, write or take tea seated on the tatami. The folding legs allowed it to be stored flat when not in use.
The top is of wood, probably Japanese cedar (sugi), with a slight raised rim. The turned legs fold under the top by means of hardware.
The wood keeps a warm patina and the soft marks of use. The surface reads authentic, with no restoration to mask it.
Today it serves as a coffee table, tea table or low side table. It fits wabi-sabi, japandi and minimalist interiors, where it brings warmth and material presence.
